Teaching is my goal
This husband and dad's number-one priority is to become a teacher
By Laura Jeanne Hammond, 8/06/09
JR Wheeler began his back to learn journey at Western Governors University, where he is achieving his dream of becoming a teacher.
“I have had a long-standing desire to have a profession that had a direct effect in making the lives of people better, of helping them succeed,” he says. “I finally considered that teaching would do just that.”
Of course, going back to learn hasn’t been without its challenges. Wheeler is a husband, father of two kids who aren’t yet teenagers, and a full-time employee. But his determination to improve his life is strong.
“In my case, I made the decision that my top, number-one priority is to become a teacher,” he says. “Anything that stands in the way must stand back and take a number.”
